💧 Innovative Water Infrastructure Unveiled

To address growing water needs and support urban aesthetics in the Dholera SIR Smart City, planners initiated a 15 km artificial river. As of now, 6 km of this man-made waterway—110 m wide and 15 m deep—has been completed and has begun to spill overflow with monsoon water

This new river serves a dual purpose: it’s both a functional reservoir for water harvesting and a planned urban amenity featuring bridges, landscaping, and public spaces.

⚙️ Engineering Feat & Symbolic Relevance

Modeled after mythological inspirations like the Ganga’s descent by King Bhagirath, this river projects India’s blend of heritage respect and cutting-edge civic solutions. Spanning 25 km² activation zones, the project reflects PM Modi’s smart city vision—pioneering greenfield infrastructure during a global pandemic

Three such artificial rivers are expected across Dholera, framing urban zones and supporting sustainability.

🌟 Strategic Urban Value

✅ Takeaway

The launch of this 6 km artificial river marks a key step in Dholera SIR’s transformation into a sustainable, smart urban ecosystem. It strengthens water resources with monsoon capture, enriches public spaces with green infrastructure, and exemplifies visionary planning. As work continues toward the full 15 km stretch (and two more rivers), Dholera is setting new standards for future-ready urban design.
